It's not off topic if it's about beer

There was a very limited allotment of the Eclipse available so we said what the hell and went for it. I hope it lasts until I get home as I want a few for my cellar too. 700 bottles is just not enough

Still 200+ bottles of Eclipse 5050 at Howley.

Some new beers previously unmentioned:

Garrison Rowdy Roger Piper. It's a Wee Heavy so of course, NLC online calls it Garrison Wee Heavy. http://www.nlliquor.com/products/19339/ ... l%20Bottle

More mediocre BC beer. Postmark Belgian Red http://www.nlliquor.com/products/19429/ ... l%20Bottle At least it's not an old IPA.

St. Peter's Organic Ale. http://www.nlliquor.com/products/19338/ ... l%20Bottle More $5.00+ mediocre beer.

Few more updates, reminders, snarky comments...

They still have lots of Lug Tread in the four-pack 355ml cans. Good for when you want to drink a couple of decent beer with buddies who don't drink decent beer, but you don't want to look like a tool uncorking a LTM Brett saison and asking for a Teku glass.

I keep forgetting I haven't tried Gahan Island Red. Might get one eventually.

Picked up a Garrison Tall Ship in a 473ml can. Pretty good little beer.

Omnipollo Zodiak is going to sit, overpriced and overstocked, until NLC decides Newfoundlanders don't like IPAs any more.

Still have hopes for that Postmark. Looks pretty in the bottle. Though the bomber is such an old school format.

Lug Tread is the poor man's Killick for those type things. Still find it hard to find anything as good as those Spindrift cans for the price point, quality, local, and flavour.

Poor Zodiak. Such a weird thing here that a beer will show up without any marketing push or events. Just show up on the shelves, several months older than it ought to be, at a price higher than it ought to be, and just sit and sit until it get so old it's remaindered. If Port Rexton had brewed an identical beer (they do a lot of things around that quality level), at an identical price, it'd be gone it a weekend. Maybe two if we were lucky. Local is important, but so is actually engaging with consumers - which the NLC seems to often obfuscate unless they have air miles.

Good....the more people who don't buy Zodiak means the more for me ;)

Zodiak is $5.98. But I have no problem paying that for a beer of that quality, when I consider all of the $4 to $5-ish drain-pour IPAs I've bought.

Anyone try the Rowdy Roger Piper wee heavy (7.8%) from Garrison? It's the winner from a home brew-off in 2017. I enjoyed two Saturday night.

Honestly, I didn't really enjoy the Rowdy Roger. But, to each his/her own.

New(ish) stuff:
New and old Garrison beers are back in 473 ml cans
Dirty Old Town Black IPA http://www.nlliquor.com/products/19038/ ... 73ml%20Can
Juicy! Double IPA http://www.nlliquor.com/products/18371/ ... 73ml%20Can
Pucker Up kettle sour http://www.nlliquor.com/products/19323/ ... 73ml%20Can
and Tall Ship and Seaport Blonde.
Buy 6 and get Air Miles (like a sucker, like I did)

Inventory is now listing Muskoka core beers in 355ml four-packs. Not sure if they're stocked yet.

QV Calm Tom is seriously low to gone except in a couple locations. Not sure if it's popularity, production or both. Mad Mike is still relatively well stocked.

Also new

Belhaven Twisted Grapefruit IPA http://www.nlliquor.com/products/19306/ ... 30ml%20Can
Petrus Blond http://www.nlliquor.com/products/19328/ ... l%20Bottle Pretty sure that's new
Wittekerke http://www.nlliquor.com/products/19330/ ... l%20Bottle The unfruited version of the Wittekerke Rose from last year.

And that Twin Pines is another $7.00 473 ml IPA. I think that one will sell much faster than the Zodiak, just with the brand name recognition.

With you on the note about Twin Pines likely selling faster. Not only is it a more well known brand here, but also the price differential in it's home province is more. Zodiac is normally $3.60 at the LCBO, where as Twin Pines doesn't even make it to the LCBO usually (I used to have to go to one of the beer bars to get a can... for $10 or something at the bar) and is usually brewery only. Where they have mail order now you can order a can for a much more comparable $5.25. So home market has them at $1.60 difference where here they end up around the same. Probably why I tend to think of the Twin Pines as not a bad deal here... amazing to even get it, honestly.
